Diamond rings have come a long way – be it in terms of cut, quality, and clarity. Diamond remains woman’s best friend and gifting a perfect ring symbolises your relationship. Buy a ring that incorporates her personal style preference, but before that you need to have a solid understanding of the 4cs (cut, color, clarity and carat) to make an informed decision. The beauty and quality of each diamond can differ significantly. Here is the guide to help you understand each area better. Four Cs are the characteristics that define the diamond. Striking a balance between these elements can help you get the best guaranteed diamond ring.

Cut

Cut is directly connected to the overall beauty of the diamond. It determines the shape and most common one is round cut that goes with any metal, be it gold or platinum.  Cut is the characteristic that’s not influenced by nature, but prone or open to bad practices or mistakes. When diamond is cut incorrectly, the sparkling elements in it get compromised. When it is cut precisely, its ability to refract and reflect light is vastly enhanced. The tiny planes cut (57 or 58 facets) are sized and angled in a way that lights reflect and exit the diamond. The too shallow or deep cut can make the diamond less brilliant. The modern diamond cutters are set in a right angle and proportion that improves diamond’s internal brilliance. Select an ideal or excellent cut diamond to make sure your stone ring offers the most fire and brightness.

Color

The rare and most valuable shade is white. This colorless diamond in a grade D is considered to be very strong and fancies. A diamond with less color is found to be very rare and it displays higher fire and greater brilliance.

Clarity

Not many people understand the clarity of a diamond. Most pieces have inclusions that seem like small feathers or clouds, but are very much invisible to the eye. These inclusions can influence the diamond’s brilliance, which makes it kind of unique. The presence of blemishes and natural inclusions within a diamond affects its value and appearance. The visibility of inclusions, orientation, location, quantity, and size influence the final clarity and diamond with less or no inclusions are considered to be highly valued and rare.

Carat

Carat that measures overall weight of the diamond is defined as 200mgm or 0.2gm and can also be calculated as per points (100 points = full carat). Consider the cut while selecting the carat weight.
