WEDDING RINGS, A QUESTION OF INDIVIDUALITY

Every person is unique, which is why every relationship is incredibly special. More and more couples attach great importance to expressing this individuality and the special characteristics of each partnership. Since the wedding rings accompany lovers for a lifetime and should fit them exactly, it makes sense to make the rings as individual as possible. Nevertheless, they should not be a disturbance in everyday life, which is why the options are somewhat limited. An engraving can be a great, unobtrusive element. Since the standard engraving of the name and wedding date is not extravagant enough for many, engravings of the fingerprints are enjoying increasing popularity. In this post we explain to you whether, how and where it is possible to engrave such a filigree image.

THE PERFECT FINGERPRINT FOR THE WEDDING RING

To be able to engrave your fingerprints in the wedding rings, they must of course be taken first. For this we use a white sheet of paper and an ink pad.

In principle, any finger can be used as a template, but the ring finger is usually used for symbolic reasons. After the finger is covered with ink, it is pressed repeatedly on the paper in a row. This creates several impressions with lighter shades of color. We repeat this process until the perfect, i.e. cleanest, impression is there.

WEDDING RING WITH FINGERPRINT

After the fingerprint has been taken, it is necessary to decide where it should be engraved on the ring. From a purely technical point of view, engraving is possible on both the outer and the inner ring.

For an engraving on the outer ring, it should be polished or matted. An ice matt or hammered surface is not suitable for engraving a fingerprint. When engraving in the inner ring, only the width of the ring is important. Although only part of the fingerprint is usually selected for engraving, the ring should still be at least 3 millimeters wide. Otherwise it cannot be guaranteed that the print can be recognized as such.

THE ENGRAVING OF THE FINGERPRINT

In the past, the engravings were carved into the metal with a diamond. With this method, however, only soft materials such as silver or gold can be processed satisfactorily. When engraving with diamonds, bright, shiny lines are created. A more modern engraving technique is laser engraving. A laser burns the image, i.e. the fingerprint, into the ring with the greatest precision. Laser engraving can also be used on extremely hard materials such as platinum or titanium and leaves dark to black lines. This makes the engravings extremely easy to recognize. In addition, it is possible to set exactly how deep the laser should penetrate the material, which gives it an exceptionally long service life.

THE FINGERPRINT AS A SPECIAL FEATURE

So it is quite possible to decorate the moonstone wedding ring with the married couple’s fingerprints. So, the lovers always wear a unique part of each other on their ring finger. Engraving the fingerprints combines a great bond with the highest degree of individuality.
