Dressing for plus size or curvy people has always been a tricky puzzle. What to wear? What not to wear? What will look good on me? What will make me look bigger? Which color should I pick? Several such questions and apprehensions make it difficult to find the right clothes for plus size people. Also, the answer to these questions is not straight forward. Often the answers differ from person to person. Your body structure, complexion, and many other factors play a role in finding the right outfit. You can find a wide-range variety of colors and patterns in plus size trousers, plus size jackets, plus size tops in Australia. While the choice of what you want to wear is completely yours, people have made unsaid rules for plus size clothing. However, the good news is that the world is changing. Oversized people are becoming more confident and revolutionarily changing the way they dress and the way people perceive them. They are defining the stereotypical and judgmental opinion and coming out with more fearlessly.

  • Old Rule: Never wear white

New Rule: It is the fit and not the color that determines how an outfit will look on you. You need not kill your love for white, rather pick a piece that fits you properly, it should neither be too tight or too baggy. Flimsy fabric is not a good choice as it would highlight your bumps. You can go for thick fabric that provides support and gives structure to your body.

  • Old Rule: No button-down shirts

New Rule: This law is completely overruled. In the present day and age, button-down shirts are considered a must for curvy people. What is important is to ensure that you pick the right piece. A button-down shirt with stretch and details like wrapping, darts, and ruching can look great on you. Layer it with a jacket or cardigan that shrinks your midsection and gives you height for a more flattering look.

  • Old Rule: You would look bigger in bright colors and prints

New Rule: As said earlier, there is no color rule in clothing. You can pick any color as long as it complements your skin tone. You can choose bright-colored clothes with cuts and fit that makes you look sleek. While choosing prints make sure that the print-size is in accordance with your body size. Watercolor-print is a choice that seldom goes wrong.

  • Old Rule: Stick to the basics and do not run after trends

New Rule: Many people would suggest you not to bother about the trend and stick to the basics as trends can be too risky for your size. This rule is a thing of the past. You can wear everything that you like whether it is in-trend or not. The trick is to choose the right cut and fit to suit your shape. If you wish to wear a crop top, choose one with long cuts and pair with a pencil skirt and create an outfit that none can dismiss.

  • Old Rule: Go for Baggy clothes to hide your size

New Rule: Putting an overwhelming amount of fabric on yourself to hide your size does not work anymore, rather it makes your look larger. Your clothes should not be too clingy but should follow your curve. Select the fabric that provides the right amount of stretch to enhance the beauty of your curves.
